Just in case you have missed it, the latest version 6 of Mageia was been released July 16. This release is the newest in the long line of Mageia releases since its appearance in September 2010. Mageia Linux was forked from the then Mandriva Linux where the vast majority of the previous Mandriva developers decided it was time to set out on their own path and remove itself from the then Mandriva corporate umbrella. Thus was born Mageia Linux.

From a recent article on the Mageia Linux Blog site, new Mageia ISO's for version 5.1. This version incorporates all of the updates applied to version 5.0 over the last half year or so. This is just to tide us over while we await the upcoming Mageia v.6.0 which is presently at the testing phase. No clear release date for Mageia v.6.0 has been announced as of yet.

A Community Driven Office Suite Project

Over the last sixteen years, LibreOffice has had help from over 900 developers with the maintenance of its code base and also has hundreds of volunteers helping with its "Get Help" channels (mailing list and forums), documentation (text books and online documentation) and its +100 translations. LibreOffice comes with 5 recognizable modules: "Writer"; "Calc"; "Impress" (presentation-slide module); "Draw"; "Base"; "Math" with compatibility for many MS file formats AND is even able to import multitudes of additional files of various formats.

A big month for the Zikula group with the release of both Zikula 1.4.0 and Zikula 1.3.10. Zikula v.1.3.10 addresses some bug fixes and other tidbits while v.1.4.0 is setting the stage for the larger transition to v.2.0.0 which is in the works.
In the meantime, some of the 1.3.x modules work on v.1.4.0 but not all.

Mageia v.5 is out. With a longer wait than usual, but worth the wait, the 5th version of this Linux distribution is out. Mageia Linux continues with strong community support and strong download numbers. A big round or congratulations go to the Mageia team who have again put out a most viable option to those who would like to work at their computers without constraints of daily virus or malware/spyware checks. This installation is still one of the best on the Linux distribution list and if you need support at the installation phase, the Mageia community will gladly help. With quite a bit of fanfare, this week, the long awaited LibreOffice v.5 made its appearance. Thus far, it has been received quite well by users and the download numbers are significant.
